The third location for the international organization in the PNW located in the Kristin Square Office Building in Southwest Portland. My design challenge was to create a space that met their vision of marrying mindful practice with busy modern life, while in a rental office space. With an open floor plan, five different areas interact freely with the meditation zone at the center of the big room, reflective of the organization’s mission. Paint blocking delineates these areas in a playful way and lines of papyrus plants outline the lounge area further while maintaining the open layout for guests to connect with the practice and with each other. Paper lamps in different shapes and sizes are sprinkled in the space and a custom room divider provides privacy during sessions and creates a welcoming entrance to this serene space.
