Meditation Center

L.A.

On Los Angeles’s hillside Franklin Avenue, this meditation center’s front room is harmonized to its natural surrounding. My clients wanted to renovate the space used for events, mainly in between and after class for enjoying hors d'oeuvres and socializing. I started with a palette that is calm and inviting, and brings the beautiful foliage in. A subdued sage green is the base color that unifies and feels grounded. A custom-made bench placed under the window row anchors the space and adds depth. This mixed-use space remains well connected while encouraging different activities, like enjoying tea by the window or lounging with a book around the coffee table. Some hints to the Japanese roots of this particular meditation tradition’s lineage are subtly dispersed along the space while prioritizing noble materials, natural fabrics and curated greenery so the room feels fresh and tranquil.
